Armenia through the eyes of UNESCO tour includes six days travel through the most beautiful sights of Armenia. During this tour you will have the chance to visit the most valuable cultural and historic monuments, which are included in UNESCO World Heritage list. Besides, you will have opportunity to visit those monuments which lay claim to become part of UNECSO World Heritage, such as monastery complexes of Noravanq and Tatev.

Arrival in Yerevan (Accommodation at the hotel)

Day1- Matenadaran/Cascade/City tour/History museum and National gallery

Breakfast. Visit to Institute of ancient manuscripts- Matenadaran that possesses one of the greatest collection of medieval books and manuscripts in the world. Promenade in Cascade. Dinner at the restaurant “Lebanon”. Promenade near the territory of Opera and Northern Avenue. Visit to History museum of Armenia and National Gallery. Free time. Supper at the restaurant “Mer Tagh” (Armenian pizza lahmajo).  Overnight at the hotel.

Day 2 – Geghard monastery/Garni pagan temple/Ejmiatsin/Zvartnots Archeological site/Yerevan

Breakfast. Departure to Geghard. The monastery of Geghard (4th century) is a unique architectural construction being partially carved out of the adjacent mountain, surrounded by cliffs. It is included in UNESCO World Heritage list. The monastery complex was founded in the 4th century by Gregory the Illuminator at the site of a sacred spring inside a cave. Listening to the spiritual music inside the chapel  that is known for its unique acoustics. Degustation of traditional gata. Visit to Garni pagan temple founded in the first century by the king Tiridates. 24 columns has symbolized 24 hours of a day. Temple is dedicated to the God of sun Mithra  which  is the only preserved building of the Armenian  Hellenistic architecture. Dinner in Garni. Departure to Mother Cathedral of Holy Ejmiatsin (4th century). Ejmiatsin is the residence of the Supreme Catholicos of all Armenians and the center of the Armenian Apostolic Church. Participation in the liturgy (in Sundays). On the way back visit to Zvartnots (meaning “celestial angels”) Archeological site (7th century).  Zvartnots, Mother Cathedral and Churches of Ejmiatsin are part of UNECSO World Heritage. Return to Yerevan. Free time. Supper at the restaurnat  “Tumanyan khinkali”. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 3 – Yerevan/Vanadzor/Odzun church/Sanahin monastery/Haghpat monastery/Alaverdi/Monument of Holy Cross/Armenian Alphabet Monument/Saghmosavank/Yerevan

Breakfast. Departure from Yerevan to Odzun church founded in the 6th century. In the 8th century it was reconstructed by Hovhannes III Odznetsi. Continuing the way arrival in Sanahin monastery founded in the 10th century  by  the Armenian king Ashot III Merciful. The monastery has been included in UNESCO World Heritage list since 1996. The complex consists of St.Astvatsatsin, St.Amenaprkich churches, 3 gavits, a book depository, bell-towers, the building of the Academy, St. Gregory chapel. Dinner in Alaverdi. Afterwards visit to  Haghpat monastery which was included in UNESCO World Heritage list in 1996. It was founded in 10th century. During 11th  and 13th centuries Haghpat school and repository were well-known. Departure to the monument of Holy Cross. The height of the cross (33 meters) symbolizes the very age of Jesus Christ when he was crucified. Nearby is the Armenian Alphabet monument erected in 2005 to the 1600 anniversary of creation of the Armenian alphabet. The monument is an interesting demonstration of the stone carvings of 39 Armenian letters. Visit to Saghmosavank monastery. Return to Yerevan. Supper at the restaurant “Tumanyan pandok”. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 4 – Khor Virap/ Noravanq/Qarahunj/Khndzoresk/Goris

Breakfast. Departure to Khor Virap monastery. Khor Virap’s notability as a monastery and pilgrimage site is attributed to the fact that  Gregory the Illuminator, was initially imprisoned here for 13 years by King Tiridates III of Armenia. Saint Gregory subsequently became the king’s religious mentor, and they led the proselytizing activity in the country. In 301 Armenia became the first country in the world to be declared a Christian nation. A beautiful view to Mount Ararat is opened from the territory of the monastery. Visit to Noravank monastery (13th century). In the 13th–14th centuries the monastery became a residence of Syunik’s bishops and consequently a major religious and, later, cultural center of Armenia. The complex has several preserved khachkars. Near the church there are khachkars and museum of the talented sculptor and miniaturist Momik.. Here is situated the unique and the only sculptured representation of God the Father in Armenia. Noravanq is laying a claim to become a part of UNESCO World Heritage. Departure to Qarahunj  translated as “voice of stones”. Qarahunj is compared with British Stonehenge. Visit to the bridge of Khndzoresk. Supper and overnight at “Christy” hotel in Goris.

Day 5 – Goris/Tatev/Areni/Yerevan

Breakfast. Departure to Tatev monastery. The complex was founded in the 4th century and the major church was built in 906. Just in the centre of the yard a pendulum column (Gavazan) was built in the 10th century the only building that has survived from numerous earthquakes proving the great constructive skill of the Armenian architects. One can reach the monastery by the world’s longest reversible aerial tramway known as “Tatever” built in 2010. Dinner. Departure to Areni village and wine factory. Degustation of different types of wine. Return to Yerevan. Free time. Supper at the restaurant “Mer gyugh”. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 6 – Yerevan/Vernisage/Tsitsernakaberd memorial

Breakfast. Free day in Yerevan. Visit to Vernisage-an open-air exhibition market of art works. Visit to Tsitsernakaberd, a memorial dedicated to the victims of the Armenian Genocide.Then visit to The Armenian Genocide Museum which opened its doors in 1995, concurrently commemorating the eightieth anniversary of the Genocide. The museum contains historical documents and is open to the public for tours. Dinner. Free time. Gala supper at the restaurant “Parvana”. Overnight at the hotel.

Transfer to Zvartnots International Airport. Departure.
