The first day
Javakhk / Medieval Capital Ani / Igdir / Dogubayazit
Departure from Yerevan to the Armenian-Georgian border. Crossing the border at the Bavra point and entrance to Javakhk. Crossing the Georgian-Turkish border from the town of Akhalqalaqi Departure to legendary Ani, the magnificent capital of the Armenian kingdom (9-11th centuries) which was once called “the city of one thousand and one churches”, which is 45 km far from the city of Kars. City tour in the medieval city (visit to Holy Mother of God cathedral, St. Saviour, Tigran Honents, Gagikashen, Church of Apostles). Departure to Igdir where famous military and political statesman Drastamat Kanayan (Dro) was born. Arrival and overnight in Dogubayazit.
The second day
Ararat Climb – 3200 m
In the morning, after finishing all the preparatory works, departure to the first camp at an altitude of 3200 m. The baggage will be taken to the camp on horseback. Lunch and dinner on the route or in the camp. Overnight in tents in 3200 m. camp.
The third day
Ararat Climb – 4200 m.
Hiking to the second camp at 4200 m. The baggage will be taken to the camp on horseback. Lunch on the route, dinner in the camp. The climb will take 5-6 hours, afterwards rest in the tents.
The fourth day
Mount Ararat Summit – 5165 m.
After midnight climb to the summit of Mount Ararat from 4200 to 5165 m. The distance of the route is approximately 14 km., duration – about 6 hours. At dawn, arrival at the summit of Mount Ararat, rest for 40 minutes. Afterwards descend to 4200 m. camp, rest, then descent to 3200 m. camp and rest again. Overnight in tents in 3200 m. camp.
The fifth day
Return from 3200 m to Dogubayazit / Daroinq fortress /palace of Ishak Pasha
In the morning, after breakfast, descend from the mount to Dogubayazit, promenade in Old Dogubayazit. Visit to Daroinq fortress and palace of Ishak Pasha where Persian, Arabian and Armenian architectural styles are intertwined. Departure to Van. On the way rest near Berkri waterfall. Overnight in Van.
The sixth day
Lake Van / Varagavanq / Door of Mher / Aghtamar island / Holy Cross Cathedral / Urartian Tushpa-Van Fortress/ Van Cat Breeding
In the morning drive up the Varaga mountain to Varagavanq church complex the archbishopric seat of medieval Vaspourakan Kingdom. Visit to the rock-cut door of “Sasna Tsrer” legend’s hero Junior Mher. Visit to Aghtamar island which hosts the unique Sourb Khach (Holy Cross) cathedral (10th century). Sourb Khach is considered to be the most beautiful monument of Armenian (as well as world) religious architecture, all covered with magnificent Biblical relieves outside and frescoes inside. Besides it is now the only Armenian Church in service in Historical Western Armenia. Rest on the beach. Degustation of the famous “Vana Tarekh” fish. Visit to well-preserved Urartian Tushpa-Van fortress (9th century BC) that has impressing cuneiform inscription of king Argishti (the founder of Yerevan). Afterwards visit to Van Cat breeding. Overnight in Van.
The seventh day
Van/ City of Kars / Church of Apostles/ Kars Fortress / Yerevan
Departure from Van to Kars. Walking along narrow streets where many 19th century buildings of Russian and Armenian architecture can still be found. Visit to the medieval “Vardan” bridge, the ruins of the house, where Yeghishe Charents, a celebrated Armenian writer lived, the Church of Apostles (10th century), the royal fortress of Kars, once the seat of Bagratid kings. Then through Akhalqalaqi and Gyumri return to Yerevan.
