Day 1 – Yerevan
Breakfast. Visit to Institute of ancient manuscripts-Matenadaran that possesses one of the greatest collections of medieval books and manuscripts in the world. Promenade in Cascade. Dinner at the restaurant “Lebanon”. Promenade near the territory of Opera and Northern Аvenue. Visit to History museum of Armenia and National Gallery. Visit to Vernisage-exhibition of art works. Free time. Supper at the restaurant “Mer Gyugh”. Overnight at the hotel.
Day 2- Khor Virap/Noravanq/Qarahunj/Khndzoresk/Goris
Breakfast. Departure to Khor Virap monastery. A beautiful view to Mount Ararat is opened from the territory of the monastery. Visit to Noravank monastery (13th century). In the 13th–14th centuries the monastery became a residence of Syunik’s bishops and consequently a major religious and, later, cultural center of Armenia. The complex has several preserved khachkars. Near the church there are khachkars and museum of the talented sculptor and miniaturist Momik. Here is situated the unique and the only sculptured representation of God the Father in Armenia. Dinner in Noravanq. Departure to Zorats Qarer (Qarahunj). Visit to Khndzoresk bridge. Departure to Goris. Supper and overnight at the hotel “Christy”.
Day 3 – Goris/Tatev/Jermuk
Breakfast. Promenade in Goris. Departure to Tatev. The complex was founded in the 4th century and the major church was built in 906. Just in the centre of the yard a pendulum column (Gavazan) was built in the 10th century the only building that has survived from numerous earthquakes proving the great constructive skill of the Armenian architects. One can reach the monastery by the world’s longest reversible aerial tramway known as “Tatever” built in 2010. Dinner at the restaurant “Tatevatun”. Departure to Jermuk. City tour. Supper and overnight in hotel (Jermuk).
Day 4– Jermuk/ Vardenyats mountain pass/Noradouz/Sevanavanq/ Haghartsin monastery
Breakfast. Promenade in Jermuk. Departure to Vardenyats mountain pass and visit to Orbelian’s caravanserai. Visit to Noraduz khachkars. Noraduz has the largest cluster of khachkars in the republic of Armenia (728 khachkars).The oldest khachkar dates back to the late 10th century (996). Departure to Sevan. Dinner in Sevan peninsula. Afterwards visit to Sevanavanq monastic complex. It was founded in 305 by Gregory the Illuminator. Departure to Dilijan and visit to Hagartsin monastery. Supper and overnight in hotel (Dilijan).
Day 5 – Odzun church/Sanahin monastery/Alaverdi/Haghpat monastery/Akhtala
Breakfast. Departure to Odzun church founded in the 6th century. In the 8th century it was reconstructed by Hovhannes III Odznetsi. Continuing the way arrival in Sanahin monastery founded in the 10th century by the Armenian king Ashot III Merciful. The monastery has been included in UNESCO World Heritage list since 1996. Dinner in Alaverdi. Afterwards visit to Haghpat monastery which was included in UNESCO World Heritage list in 1996. It was founded in 10th century. During 11th and 13th centuries Haghpat school and repository were well-known. Then visit to Akhtala fortress and monastery founded in the 10th century. One can admire intertwined Armenian, Georgian and byzantine architectural elements of the monastery and fortress. Departure to Vanadzor. Supper and overnight at the hotel “Tezh Ler”
Day 6 – Monument of Holy Cross/Armenian Alphabet Monument/Saghmosavanq/Amberd/Byurakan
Breakfast. Departure to the monument of Holy Cross. The monument of Holy Cross consists of 1712 big and small crosses which symbolize the years of adopting the Christianity as an official religion in Armenia. The height of the cross (33 meters) symbolizes the very age of Jesus Christ when he was crucified. Nearby is the Armenian Alphabet monument erected in 2005 to the 1600 anniversary of creation of the Armenian alphabet. The monument is an interesting demonstration of the stone carvings of 39 Armenian letters. Departure to Saghmosavanq which is a 13th-century Armenian monastic complex located in the village of Saghmosavan, atop the precipitous gorge carved by Kasagh river. Arrival at the hotel “Amberd”. Dinner. Visit to the fortress Amberd. Supper in the hotel. At 22:00 visit to Byurakan observatory – stars observation. Overnight at the hotel “Amberd”.
Day 7 – Ejmiatsin/Zvartnots/Yerevan/Tsitsernakaberd
Breakfast. Departure to Mother Cathedral of Holy Ejmiatsin (4th century). Ejmiatsin is the residence of the Supreme Catholicos of all Armenians and the center of the Armenian Apostolic Church. If it is Sunday, participation in the liturgy. On the way back visit to Zvartnots (meaning “celestial angels”) Archeological site (7th century). It is included in UNESCO World Heritage list. Zvartnots Archaeological Site is a unique example of Armenian architecture of the early Christian period. Zvartnots exerted a major influence on the architecture not only of its time, but also on that of later centuries. Zvartnots, Mother Cathedral and Churches of Ejmiatsin are part of UNECSO World Heritage. Return to Yerevan. Dinner. Visit to Tsitsernakaberd memorial, Armenian Genocide museum opened in 1995. Free time. Supper at the restaurant “Tumanyan khinkali”. Overnight at the hotel.
Day 8 – Garni/Geghard/Vernisage
Breakfast. Departure to Geghard. The monastery of Geghard (4th century) is a unique architectural construction being partially carved out of the adjacent mountain, surrounded by cliffs. It is included in UNESCO World Heritage list. The monastery complex was founded in the 4th century by Gregory the Illuminator at the site of a sacred spring inside a cave. Degustation of traditional gata. Visit to Garni pagan temple founded in the first century by the king Tiridates. 24 columns have symbolized 24 hours of a day. Temple is dedicated to the god of sun Mithra which is the only preserved building of the Armenian Hellenistic architecture. Return to Yerevan. Dinner at the restaurant “Mer tagh”.Visit to Vernisage-exhibition of art works. Free time. Gala supper at the restaurant “Parvana”. Overnight at the hotel.
